Lions and Tigers and Bears....Oh yes!
On our last day in Michigan City we visited the Washington Park zoo, and although I love zoos so much I was really excited about just how close that you could get to the animals at this particular one. The one thing I didn't like was that the animals were in closed in such small enclosures and I felt really sorry for them. I am a huge animal lover and I feel that even though they are in a zoo they should still have adequate accommodations to thrive. This zoo didn't really provide that. Anyway the upside was that you could get very up close and personal with many of the animals....including an ostrich that I was very tempted to try to pet...even though it looked very mean and I think it wanted to bite me. The bears there were really friendly and played to the crowd...they were standing up and licking the glass. There was a mountain lion...monkeys...and the most beautiful tigers I have ever seen. They were so close that we could have reached out and touched them. The sign "Warning Tigers may spray to mark there territory" was just too funny....the sad fact is that someone was probably sprayed prompting the sign to be put up. I feel sorry for that person. Overall it was a great experience and although I left feeling sorry for the animals I think that that being able to up close to them was a great experience. And thanks Brady for tramping along through another zoo with me....he pretends like he doesn't like them but I think he secretly does. I can smell a zoo from like 10 miles away so that is always part of the itinerary when we go on a trip. I just loved it and I hope you enjoy the pics....Brady has become a great photographer, trying to get pics of moving animals is hard so hats off to some of the great pictures we were able to get!

Chip loves zoos too! We don't go as much as he would like though. I am just so-so with them, but I think Chip would've liked to have been a zoologist!
